According to a medical journal, this is an accurate definition of a “blush”:

A blush is a temporary erythema of the facial capillaries etiologized by a perceptiveness of the sensorium when in a predicament of shame, anger, or other cause; eventuating in a paresis of the vaso-motor filaments of the facial capillaries whereby being divested of their elasticity, they are suffused with radiance emanating from an intimidated precordia.
