A Simple But Very Useful Formatting Tip
I have published a few poems here and wondered how to create stanzas or just use single-line formatting. For example, how do you change this:
My poem looks like this
with wide spacing between lines
But I do not like the way this looks
It looks like I intended to have
One-line stanzas
And, of course, that will influence
The way my reader experiences
My poem.
Instead, I would like my poem to look like this:
My new poem looks like this
With narrow spacing
Which allows me to
Create stanzas
In this case I have
Four lines per stanza.
I have asked how to do this
And sent a message to Medium HELP
But I never received an answer
So I started experimenting
With different techniques which
I thought might work, and
Voila!
When you want a stanza-like presentation, instead of just hitting <return> at the end of the line, use <shift><return>. That’s all there is to it!
